This week I am going to be doing some intense learning. I am attending a week long course and taking a test to become a Certified Lactation Counselor. This is something I have been interested in ever since I had my daughter. I did not have the typical experience. My daughter had to go to the NICU right away so I had to pump, and then she needed to be on extra calories so I had to continue to primarily pump even when she was home. I went to a breastfeeding support group and felt like I didn’t fit in. We also supplemented with formula, so we’ve had a lot of different feeding experiences. I’ve wanted to attend this training so I could help moms that have had different experiences like I have had. I’m a little nervous for a week long intensive course, especially because I’ll be staying in a hotel all week — the longest I’ve ever been away from my daughter! I’m excited for everything I’m going to learn though, and also for hopefully sleeping through the night each of those nights I’m away!
The training is through The Healthy Children’s Center for Breastfeeding and you can check them out here.
Have any of you done this training? I’d love to hear about your experience!
